Fish from Strandby, now with double the kitchen

Restaurant Emil moved to Østre Havnegade on June 5, 2026, after three and a half years at its old address. The new waterfront space gives the kitchen close to double the room it had before, built from scratch around how the cooks actually work.

The fish still comes from Strandby, a fishing port near Frederikshavn, and the service stays relaxed and craft driven. With the extra square footage, Emil can now host private events alongside its regular seatings, something the old address never had room for.

Innovative cuisine, really enjoyed the tasting menu with very inventive combinations. Service was good and the matching wines were excellent although with the 5 courses you might find yourself a little tipsy! The room at the back is a bit dingy so if you can get in the main room that is much nicer.

Excellent 5 course tasting menu with matching wines. Portions a good size and generous wine measures. Fish and seafood, really good, innovative. Not cheap but reasonable value given the quality and generally high prices at all decent restaurants.

We had a very pleasant and tasteful gastronomic experience at Restaurant Emil. The food, the service and the overall experience was perfect! We had the "big menu" option with 5 starters and 7 main dishes + dessert and I can say that the food was enough for an adult male. Although my girlfriend felt that it was to much for her. Anyways, if it is not more than enough then it is not enough 🙂 In one word, perfect! We will go there again and the gain to enjoy their new dishes! It is a must if you live in beautiful Aalborg!
