Real French pastry, cooked by a real French chef, in Suva

Chef Philippe Garand ran the kitchen at the Holiday Inn Suva for years before opening his own corner café with his wife Noellie. He cooks, she runs the front of house, and together they've built one of the few places in town doing straight-up French technique.

No Fiji-French fusion angle here, just buttery pastries and fresh coffee in the morning, then set dinners later in the week. Come for breakfast before 8am if you want a table without waiting.

Breakfast prices are the most reasonable in Suva. Service, seating and coffee were great. Eggs Benny muffins thou were dense. Recommended

We ordered lasagna and fish and chips, the lasagna was only enough for one, it was tasty but pricey ($24) but I appreciate the menu has halal items clearly stated and the customer service was great too. There is parking available at the back , not many spots though but it exists 🙂, cappuccino was delicious. It’s good for a quick lunch with workmates, each to their own though.

Highly recommend trying one of their savory crepes. I had the Ratatouille and Prawn crepe, and it was outstanding! The crepe itself was perfectly cooked—tender and light—and the filling was rich and flavorful ! Plus, the staff were genuinely friendly, attentive :)

We bought pasteries from Chef Phillipe a couple of weeks back and I must say they were the best in the city so we went back and this time for brunch and I am hoping this was a one off because my culinary experience was not so great. I ordered an eggs benny and by the time my food came out, it was cold. The hollandaise seemed like it had split unless they were going for a foamy appearance and my eggs were poached to the point where the whites separated from the yolk and had none of the googy silkiness. When I mentioned my food was cold to one of the servers, they asked me "and what would you like me to do about it". Anyway he took it back to the kitchen and reheated it which cooked the eggs even further instead of a refire. Just to reconfirm if this was a mishap and some had not paid a great deal of attention while making this meal, I will try the eggs benny from Chef Phillipe once more and hoping that its different a second time around.

We've only dined there twice but I have to declare it's divine. Great atmosphere, lovely staff and of course delicious, fresh and beautifully presented dishes including vegetarian options. And the desserts!! It's currently BYO but I understand they are waiting on their license. You must visit but you may have to book 😁 Merci Chef Philippe 🙏
