No chairs, no long menu, just a quick draft beer and a spot to stand with whoever's next to you. Altstadtschänke is a Stehbierkneipe through and through, built for people who want a beer, not a booth.

Small tapas-style snacks back up the drafts, and weekly beer and spritz specials keep a mixed crowd of regulars and passersby coming back. Sandstraße's cafe and restaurant row had been missing exactly this: a proper standing bar to duck into between plans.

You can bring your own food. Snacks like chips, chocolate bars, pretzels, etc. are available there. Absolutely fair prices. Drinks are self-service, and there are deposit tokens for glasses. There's a courtyard, outdoor seating in front, and air-conditioned indoor seating. Great service. A friendly, family atmosphere. Great 80s music. We arrived spontaneously as a large group and initially found space at the standing tables. Later, a large table became available for all of us (not easy to find on a Saturday night on Sandstraße if you haven't reserved in advance). The drinks were delicious and reasonably priced. What we especially liked was that you could bring your own food into the pub. So we simply bought some snacks from Ahörnla and enjoyed them with our drinks. It was a perfect option for us because everyone could bring what they wanted. A cool concept and a relaxed atmosphere :)

A really nice new spot in Bamberg's old town. Everything is new and comfortably furnished. The typical pub games like billiards and darts are a particular highlight. What bothered me a lot was having to pay a deposit for glasses. Also, the bar was hopelessly understaffed.
