A couple's independent hotel below the Altenburg

Skip the chain hotels going up near the station. Teresa and Julian Glos gutted an older Bamberg property and reopened it as Das HOB, their first business and one of the only genuinely independent new hotels in town.

It sits in a quiet residential stretch below the Altenburg fortress, a walk or short bus ride from the cathedral. Parking and wifi are free throughout, and the whole place still feels family run rather than corporate.

An excellent hotel: lovely room, everything spotlessly clean, a generous breakfast and—most importantly—very friendly and helpful staff. Everything was great and I couldn’t pick out a single thing to improve. We would happily recommend this hotel to anyone. The room was comfortable and pleasant, I especially enjoyed spending time on the terrace — a peaceful spot to unwind. The convenient coin-operated drinks made grabbing a refreshment easy and fun. Very good breakfast. Highly recommended!

What a wonderful stay! The HOB hit all the marks for us — peaceful surroundings made for truly restful nights, and the hotel was spotless throughout. Breakfast was delicious and set us up perfectly for the day, and getting around was easy thanks to reasonable access to public transit. Friendly, fresh, and convenient — we’ll happily stay again.

A few mins ride out from the city but nice quiet location. Its been recently refurbished and rooms and showers are good. Superb buffet breakfast.
