A zero-waste café inside the Japanisches Palais museum

Palais Café reopened inside the Japanisches Palais in December 2025, run by the VG Verbrauchergemeinschaft cooperative, which has tested low-waste café operation in this space since 2019. The menu runs on certified-organic, regional and seasonal ingredients, so it shifts with what's in season.

A long communal table sits at the center of the room, fitting for a project space that shares the building with the museum's rotating exhibitions.

A quiet, super friendly café run by young people. First, we had sweet potato soup with ginger and homemade croutons. To finish, we had a cappuccino and sour cream cake. All delicious for €13!

A very dedicated new team, a diverse menu (including gluten-free options), and creatively sustainable decor. And above all, the outdoor area boasts a beautiful ambiance – you sit in the stately and tranquil courtyard of the palace, surrounded by raised flowerbeds. A fantastic place.
