A croissant-led bakery working entirely with sourdough
Freyja opened in January 2026 with a narrow, stubborn brief: croissants and laminated pastry made on a sourdough base, which takes days rather than hours. The Szövetség utca shop is the Pest site of a small two-shop operation.
The range is short and changes with what proofs properly. Everything is baked in the morning and the counter empties as the day goes on.

The puff pastry on these pieces of art is crispy, light, and flaky to perfection. Butter melts in your mouth like a dream (and, as my mentor Franchino Er Criminale would say, makes your eyes roll back)

UPDATE: the proper ham and cheese croissant is back!!! (and now they've also added a pickle slice and mustard). Tastes much better than the one I had (in the picture). ________________ They have good sweet croissants and they used to have savory options as well (ham and cheese croissant, in particular). However, the savory options are off the menu now and when I asked for ham and cheese croissant, I was told that they only have a sandwich now but offered to switch bread with croissant. Well, what I received was a total disappointment, which tasted mediocre at best. Would only recommend to come here for their sweet croissants.

Living up the best croissants in town! We ordered the pistachio croissant and it was wow! The pistachio cream was just right and not overpowering. The croissant layers were so nice. A very memorable pistachio croissant 😍 And great coffee too!

Really really good pastries - we enjoyed the cinnamon bun and pain au chocolate. The best I’ve had in Budapest. Be try kind staff. Lovely sitting area. Very bright with big windows. However, it is very expensive! For two small coffees and two pastries it was $20.00.
