Studio Medium waited eight years to open a shop, then built one where you can watch the clothes get made

Fabric comes first here, shape second. Hand-dyed, surface-worked cloth leads into kaftans, dresses and the label's Handsfree saree, the pre-draped piece that made its name, all hung next to displays of the process behind them.

Circles run through the whole design, and some wall surfaces are built from threads the brand discarded during production. The 800-square-foot space sits on the second floor of Delhi's Dhan Mill compound, fitted out by Chennai studio Whitedge, itself a former warehouse estate worth losing an afternoon in.
