33 Giri

Rome's first listening bar, run by three sisters and a DJ

33 Giri opened in Borgo Pio on January 24, 2025, a few steps from the Vatican walls. Sisters Andrea, Michela, and Federica Mercuri run it with Federica's partner Carlo Scordo, a DJ and producer who based the space on listening bars he found in northern Europe. It is the first place in Rome built around that idea.

A turntable and a wall of records set the mood, no shuffled playlists. Natural wine goes with a short menu of toasts and tartare, plus baked things like banana bread and Basque cheesecake. Open Tuesday to Saturday from 6pm, it works more like a listening room than a regular bar.

Good to know

  • Arrive right at 6pm on a Tuesday if you want a seat near the speakers.
  • The Basque cheesecake is baked in-house daily and often runs out by 9pm.
  • Ask Carlo to play a record from the collection behind the bar if you have a specific genre in mind.

I came here for the after party of a friend’s wedding and had a great time. Everything came together perfectly: the wine, the food, the service, and the music. The atmosphere was lively and fun, and the team helped make the night feel special. It was one of those evenings that everyone will remember for a long time

This is a beautiful place to visit, especially if you are looking for a quiet, romantic atmosphere. It has a great vibe with a talented DJ and a wide selection of drinks. While the food is not the best, the stunning setting and music more than make up for it.

I do not recommend if you're over 30 and want to have an adult experience. I've been living in Rome for a year and a half and stopped in to meet a friend here. Wine was overpriced and only available by the bottle, but they don't use *real glasses* only plastic wine stems. What's the point of buying a 50 euro bottle if you have to drink it out of a phony glass? There are plenty of places that serve great wine, cheaper, by the glass, in real glass. They so were strict about seating because we didn't have a reservation (at 7pm on a Tuesday night) and made us leave after 40 minutes, even though multiple spaces were open around us. It didn't feel very Roman, if I may say. More like a bad impression of New York. The staff is friendly and the ambiance is nice, but I don't recommend if you're looking for a place to feel like an adult in Rome, and not like a kid in Disneyland.

This is one of the best places in Rome to grab a bite and drink wine. The food is great, the wine selection is extensive, and the atmosphere and music are always on point. I’ve been here several times and every time I had a great experience. However, last Sunday something happened that really disappointed me. I had a reservation for two people at 6:30 pm. The reservation was initially made by email for Wednesday, and later that same Wednesday I called to move it to Sunday at the same time. When we arrived on Sunday, I informed the staff and asked if it would be okay for us to be four instead of two. They said it was fine, and we didn’t occupy any extra space we sat exactly at the table they assigned to us. We ordered wine and food, then dessert. At no point were we informed that there was a time limit or another reservation after ours. While we were discussing what to order next, a waitress suddenly came to tell us that we had to leave because another reservation was arriving. I explained that we were ready to order again and that no one had informed us about any time restriction. The waitress insisted that it was “impossible” that we weren’t informed and kept repeating that they always write this in their emails. I’m certain this was not the case: • it was not mentioned in the email • it was not mentioned during the phone call when I changed the reservation Even if there had been a mistake, the situation could have been handled very differently. What bothered me the most was not being asked to leave, but the attitude. Repeating “è impossibile” over and over instead of listening, acknowledging the misunderstanding, or simply apologizing felt very disrespectful. Mistakes can happen, but denying them and failing to show basic courtesy is not right, especially in a place that otherwise prides itself on atmosphere and hospitality. This experience unfortunately left a bad impression in contrast to all my previous visits.

A lovely place near the Vatican! I have been here two times and everytime I really enjoyed it. The staff is so friendly, polite and welcoming! The atmosphere is immaculate, good music, good vibes, and a place to meet interesting people. The food is bomb and the wine selection very nice (we got: marinated salmon, tuna sashimi, iberico with bread and Cajun oven potato and white wine malvasia), in addition the menu changes depending on the season. we truly loved it and it’s a hidden gem in the city, pass by if you get the chance!
