Soba kaiseki in an old Sakanoshita house near the beach

The soba here is coarsely milled from organically grown buckwheat, and it's the last thing you eat, after appetizers, a grilled course and tempura, kaiseki-style. Fish and vegetables come mostly from the nearby Miura peninsula.

The restaurant spent close to twenty years in Hayama before moving into this renovated old house in Sakanoshita, near the beach. The rooms are quiet, the old bones intact, and the summer heat outside feels far away.

[Added in Spring 2026] It seems they've moved from Hayama to Hase. I'd like to visit again, but I'm worried it might get crowded now that it's more accessible. I'll make a reservation. >Here's what I wrote about the Hayama location around 2021: It's probably been over 10 years since I last visited this famous soba restaurant in the neighboring prefecture, so close yet so far. I called the day before, not expecting much, but luckily they gave me a table. In any case, from the flowering trees surrounding the entrance to the welcoming lady and the alcove, everything exudes a beauty that reflects the best of this region, and you can feel the quality of the ingredients and something you can only experience here. My overall impression of the food is the same: meticulous work brings out the best in the ingredients, the noodles are smooth and easy to eat, but upon closer examination, you can see the ingenuity and exquisite balance. Above all, the pleasant atmosphere and just the right amount of hospitality create a first-class experience and a comfortable ambiance. I've written down my memories of each dish in the photos.

A delicious soba restaurant in Hayama. It's a set-course restaurant, so rather than just soba, you get the soba course meal. The lunch course consisted of seven dishes, but it was a substantial meal. The staff were very friendly and had a great time! Thank you for the meal. Adios👍

The food was just as delicious as the reviews said. We went by car, but I was shocked by how narrow the road was, almost to the point of my heart stopping. If you're worried about your driving skills, I recommend using a nearby parking lot. We went in an SUV, so there was only a 10cm gap on either side of the road and the car, and it felt like the wall was almost touching the side mirror. The meal was left to the chef, and all the dishes were fresh and unlike anything I'd ever tried before. The fish was soft, the vegetables were sweet, and the soba noodles were chewy - the best soba I've ever eaten. It was a really relaxing place (except for the parking lot 😂)

It was the best restaurant ever! The space, service, food, drinks, and tableware were all simply amazing! I was particularly impressed with the first dish, the firefly squid; I was drawn in from the start. I also like the slightly uneven texture of the soba noodles 🙆‍♂️ This is a restaurant I'll definitely return to!!

We were here purely by chance. WaWe are completely surprised by the atmosphere and hospitality of the hosts. The service almost feels like a Michelin-star restaurant. The food is great too!
