Coffee and Indonesian jamu in a 70-year-old nagaya

SAMAA_ opened on 1 October 2025 in a nagaya row house more than seventy years old, near Sangenjaya. The coffee menu is supervised by an extraction specialist and the counter is laid out so you can watch the whole process.

Jamu, the Indonesian herbal drink, sits on the menu next to the coffee. It is the more interesting order if you have already had two cups that morning.

Was it cheap, no. 17 bucks Canadian for one bagel and two medium cappuccinos. Was the coffee, bagel, and service good? Yes, very good on all fronts. Nice, clean and relatively busy environment, two very nice gentlemen working behind the bar and the products were all great. Can’t really blame them for having expensive prices as I didn’t look or ask before ordering. So it is what it is. But they had a relatively large and again nicely finish location and good service was my experience so no complaints. Wouldn’t go back, maybe. Am I glad I tried it, yes.

A cosy, atmosphere where makes you feel safe and sound. Nice to have long talks with friends and family. Especially window side is nice to chill. The best part is after you enter the cafe if you look up you will see a 80 years old home structure which gives a nice acoustic and comfort level to cafe. Amazing that they renovated the building this way. Loved it highly recommended!
