Kaunas' queue bakery lands in Paupys

The lines that made Habits famous in Kaunas have followed it to Vilnius. Chef Dovydas Vaisovas built his name on laminated pastry and brunch plates, and the Paupys branch runs the same rule: no reservations, just a live queue and first come, first fed.

Vaisovas trained in Lithuania and England, cooked Italian, Asian and seafood before landing on baking. The pastry cases were getting photographed before the paint dried. Skip the weekend crush and go on a weekday morning instead.

Visited tonight with a friend and both of us very much enjoyed the casual atmosphere, great drinks - aperol, coffee (I have never seen before such a cute kitty face on coffee! lovely touch!) and mostly - our amazing waitress Mila! Definitely coming back!

Very very average experience i would say. Out of all the food and drinks ordered, only buns maybe worth the attention, thus, not the best in town. The best is to buy for takeaway, to avoid losing time. Service was unacceptable, waitress asking if someone has informed on unavailability of some of the dishes after ordering and waiting 30 min. Waitress was rarely nearby, and no napkins on the table. Prices are on higher side like all hipster places these days. And the greet system with possibility to pay tips in advance Is an interesting solution.

Overall, breakfast at this place was decent — the food was tasty and nice presented, although nothing particularly outstanding. However, I have mixed feelings about whether the quality matches the price, as it feels a bit overpriced. Of course, that’s a matter of personal opinion. Another downside was the rather long waiting time for the order. The coffee was served warm rather than properly hot, which also affected the overall experience. Overall, it’s a pleasant place and worth visiting once, but considering the prices, my expectations were slightly higher.

The location is great and the coffee is solid, but the whole experience was honestly "meh." The ordering system is just weird. You have to pay and tip in advance, which makes no sense. We aren't in the States—tips should be for when the service is actually good, not a requirement before you even sit down. Since so many people have mentioned this in the comments and it hasn't changed, it clearly feels like a deliberate choice by the owners. As for the food, it’s definitely going downhill. I had the Shakshuka with burrata and it was so aggressively seasoned I couldn't taste anything else. It felt like the chef forgot they already salted it and did it two or three more times. On the other end of the spectrum, the Turkish eggs were way too plain. There was hardly any yogurt and the carrots were so tasteless they just blended into nothing. The pastries were good and the service was fine, but in a city like Vilnius with so many amazing breakfast spots, I really regret wasting the money and the "stomach space" here. It wasn’t a total disaster, but I definitely won't be back.

I had previously visited another branch of this place in Kaunas and really liked it. This location was even busier, with a lot of people. If you want to sit inside, you may need to wait a bit. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, which I really appreciated. However, the seating arrangement was a bit uncomfortable, workers and people were constantly passing behind my chair and bumping into it, so I had to move to the side and couldn’t sit as comfortably as I would have liked. Other than that, everything was great. My matcha was delicious, the protein shake was very good, and the desserts were also really tasty. Overall, we truly enjoyed our visit. ✨
