Corner café for beers, gins and barbecue snacks
Café Publiek occupies a corner spot on Dapperplein, pouring beers and gins next to a snack menu built around barbecue dishes rather than a sit-down meal. It's the kind of place suited to one round or several.
The café is closed Monday and Tuesday. The rest of the week it opens from mid-afternoon, with weekend hours starting around midday.

This place has been a LOVELY addition to the neighbourhood! Ever since they opened, they have completely transformed the vibe of Dapperplein for the better. The square has gone from empty (and more often than not messy) to being pleasantly buzzing and inviting within a matter of weeks. After watching the busy terrace all summer, we finally dropped by for drinks and bites on the weekend and now I can confirm that on top of the great atmosphere, Cafe Publiek also has incredibly friendly staff and delicious food. Highly recommend the chicken skewers that come with an insanely yummy sauce and their seasoned fries (and definitely dip those fries in the chicken sauce - trust me). It’s like a classic friendly neighbourhood bruine krug but brought into the 21st century. We will be back (a lot)!

Probably the best culinary experience of my life. Owners are so cute and friendly. Service was amazing regardless of what that other lady has said in the review so I would ignore her. Probably just a whiny old lady

Last Friday, we had a bite to eat at Café Publiek. A really nice spot in East Amsterdam. As far as we're concerned, the reviews did the place justice. A chill atmosphere, super friendly staff, and tasty wines. However, we were bothered by three things. The lamb skewer was burnt (see photo). It had been turned on the burnt side so you couldn't see it, but you could clearly taste it, and after turning it over, you could see it too. Secondly, we felt the price charged was high for the amount of food. Of course, this is often the case at shared dining spots, but two skewers for twelve euros, come on. Thirdly, it took an enormous amount of time for a dish to be ready. They noticed this themselves and fortunately came over to let us know politely. Overall, a nice place, but perhaps not entirely our thing, or maybe they were just having an off day. By all means, go check it out and draw your own conclusions.

Nice atmosphere, but absolutely no friendly staff. I didn't eat here, so I can't comment on that.
