The French living room of Empel

Empel had no proper meeting place until this showed up. Locals call it the village's living room, and they mean the crêpes, the croques, and the crowd that fills the tables every night.

The card leans French and simple, longer once evening hits, and the crêpe Suzette is the order regulars make without opening the menu. Friday and Saturday nights bring an all-you-can-eat spare rib deal that's become the busiest thing on the calendar.

I ate here with my girlfriend on a Tuesday evening. It was a quiet evening, which I love when I go out for dinner. Dining together without distractions. Fantastic food for a great price. Good portions. Side dishes are optional, so it's not a "small piece of meat/fish and stuff yourself with fries" kind of place. For 2 people, we spent 150 euros for 3 courses and 6 drinks. Very attentive and friendly service. We will definitely eat here again!

We had lunch here together, but I find the price-quality ratio unsatisfactory. For €18, I received a carpaccio with only one slice of bread, which simply isn't filling. Additionally, it doesn't feel like a place where you would just spontaneously drop in for a casual lunch. The menu doesn't look very accessible, and as far as I'm concerned, the prices don't match that well. The staff is friendly and the coffee tastes good!

Delicious, cozy, good, flavorful dishes, could easily be in Paris or Belgium (marrowbone on the menu, for those who like it). I thought 1 (small) oyster was a bit expensive for 5 euros; 3 for 10 euros on the menu would be better. Currently, I'm getting two drinks, next time a bottle of wine. For two people, I'd be happy with 150 euros. Not haute cuisine, but really good food with a difference. The service is also pleasant, though it's still a bit of a start, but that's perfectly fine. We'll definitely be back.
