Dutch cooking in a farmhouse in the Bosjes van Pex
Huzarensalade with smoked Scheveningen herring, beef cheek in pepper sauce, no foam anywhere. The people behind Basaal took a seventeenth century farmhouse by the tennis courts in the Bosjes van Pex and turned it into an eetcafé.
Open fire in winter, terrace in summer. It's a twenty minute cycle from the centre and worth every one of them.

We had a delicious meal here! A modest but inviting menu. Both the schnitzel and the lamb shank were delicious. We will definitely be back.

We loved the food and the concept: no small, trendy dishes to share (which is also nice, but we already have so many of those), but simply delicious, substantial meals with a traditional twist. The decor could use a bit more attention, though.

If you’re close to the city centre and think this is too far to go for a meal, you’re missing out. It was so incredibly worth it! The food is excellent!! and service was very very good and the space is super nice and gezellig!! Got the halibut and beef cheeks which were both amazing! The garlic bread was sensational and the rubarb crumble was super nice as well!!

A lovely place for a good meal. See the photos for the dishes. We had a delicious meal with a good bottle of German Pinot Noir.
