Manci

Hungarian diner on Bygdøy allé
Craving goulash instead of another Nordic-with-a-twist plate? Manci fills a gap Oslo barely knew it had, a proper Eastern European diner leaning Hungarian and Central European rather than local-foraged.
It sits at the Solli end of the avenue, an easy walk from the National Library. Go for lunch if you want the room to yourself.

Manci is undeniably beautiful, and it’s easy to see why it’s become such a popular spot. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t quite match the setting. The service was slower than expected, the coffee was fairly average, and while the food was enjoyable, it never quite reached the level the space promised. Still a lovely place to spend an afternoon, just not one I’d rush back to for the food alone.

We had a very good lunch at Manci, very good flavors, fresh ingredients and large portions. This was a very good meal at a good price!

Loved this restaurant! Such a cozy, intimate space – you can tell a lot of heart was put into the design. I ordered a Negroni and it was perfect; frosty cold and smooth. The food was simple but comforting and delicious, with great portion sizes (the schnitzel was as big as my face!). Highly recommend!
