Esca takes the Aegean seafood tradition and gives it a contemporary edge, plating raw fish, grilled catch and shellfish with a lighter, more composed hand than the old kordon meyhanes. It reads as a restaurant built for people who grew up on this food and want to see it treated seriously rather than nostalgically.

The Michelin Guide lists Esca among its Izmir restaurants. It sits in Alsancak, the district that holds most of the city's ambitious dining, within walking distance of the waterfront. Coordinates are approximate to the Alsancak block.
