Brunch and speciality coffee in Kemptown's old Metrodeco room
That art-deco room on Upper St James's Street used to be Metrodeco. Now it's Hooked, and the tea room format is gone, replaced by a seasonal brunch built around eggs done a few different ways and proper speciality coffee.
The walls didn't change, the menu did. Upper St James's Street is Kemptown's main strip for independent cafés, so regulars notice fast what stayed and what didn't.

Cracking local cafe on a lively street a short walk outside the tourist heavy centre of Brighton. Had a lovely vegetarian cooked breakfast - particularly liked the inclusion of potato farls. The owner was friendly and welcoming and we were especially impressed by the service from Chloe - attentive, professional, friendly and happy to talk a bit about the joys of Brighton. Recommended!

Went there today with wife just to try their Scottish Brekkie. Drove 45 miles and HOLY WILLIAM WALLACE. One of the best brekkies I had in my life. Cooked to perfection with quality ingredients. Tattie Scones outstanding and Lorne sausages rendered my speechless. Worth every penny. I am a big man and was very satisfied with portion. 100% going back.

Got a very tasty coffee from this new place - the owner made us feel so welcome and has set up a great venue. We’ll be sure to come back next time we’re in Brighton.
