Southern cooking with a wine list to match, next door to Kinship

Chef Myles Moody and his wife took the Kinship Butcher & Sundry playbook and built a whole restaurant around it. So. Fox sits right next door, pouring wine chosen to match Southern ingredients that get a twist you won't expect.

It's built to be a neighborhood regular's spot, not a special-occasion table. Same kitchen philosophy as the butcher shop, same owner, looser night out.

This place is the Disney world of restaurants in Atlanta. I already knew it was going to be good since it was created behind the team at Kinship, but it far exceeded every expectation. Reservations were booked out through September, but since we live in the neighborhood we decided to try to get a table as a walk in and Julia, the hostess, greeted us so warmly. The restaurant atmosphere is very warm and understated which is so refreshing in a city full of places that feel like they’re doing the most. About 30min before our estimated seating time we decided to sit at the bar for a pre dinner cocktail. They have a very unique selection of drinks but Romi, the bartender, was so helpful in steering us in the right direction and we both LOVED her recommendations. I got the No. 1 and the No. 2 over the course of the evening (the No. 2 was the best drink I’ve ever had) and my boyfriend got the No. 3 and the No. 4 (the No. 4 was his fav). When our table was available they carried our drinks to our table for us and we did not have to close out at the bar. We were recommended to get the sourdough and summer squash as a starter, and I’m so glad we did. The sour dough comes with the most incredible butter I’ve ever had in my life and it was topped with pickled garlic blossoms which was divine. The squash came on a bed of the creamiest cheese and we used the leftovers to dip our bread in. For our entrees we got the snapper and the grilled beef and they were both amazing. The beef was cooked perfectly, and the sauce that accompanied it was a delightful complement. The snapper was tender and flaky and probably the best fish I’ve ever had. Because everything was soooo good, we decided to order dessert. We got the thomasville tomme (cheesecake) and the peach (peach granita on a bed of marshmallow fluff). Both were out of this world. While the food and drinks were unreal, the real star of the show was the service. Our waiter, Sam, was so kind and personable and made us feel like family. The team came to our table, checked on us multiple times, and made us feel so cared for. This was the best restaurant experience I have ever had in my life and is a perfect addition to the Virginia Highland neighborhood. Counting down the days until we return!!!

What an incredible experience at So Fox in Virginia-Highland! Jeremy was my server, and he made the entire meal feel thoughtful, warm, and special from beginning to end. His knowledge of the menu and wine was impressive, and his recommendation of the Alessandra Divella Blanc de Blancs Dosaggio Zero from Gussago, Italy, paired beautifully with my meal. We started with the sourdough served with cultured butter and garlic blossoms. The bread was perfectly crusty, the inside was soft and airy, and the butter was so delicious that it deserves its own moment. For my entrée, I had the grouper with new potato, bay, and flowering chili. The fish was beautifully prepared, delicate, flavorful, and presented like a work of art. What made the visit even more memorable was the genuine hospitality. The entire crew was welcoming, and the owners, Rachel and Myles, both came over to introduce themselves and say hello. You can feel how much care they have put into the food, the wine selection, the atmosphere, and the people who walk through their doors. So Fox is the kind of neighborhood restaurant that feels elevated without ever feeling intimidating. Beautiful food, interesting wine, wonderful people, and hospitality that stays with you long after the meal. I cannot recommend it enough, and I will absolutely be back. Ask for Jeremy. You will be in excellent hands!

My second trip to So. Fox. was just as great as the first. This time I walked in without a reservation and with just a book in hand. Was able to get a spot at the standing bar which is such a great concept. Tried different plates and drinks this time (except I had to get the sourdough again!) and they were exceptional! Will certainly be a regular here.

So Fox feels like the kind of neighborhood restaurant that instantly becomes part of the conversation. The beef tartare was impeccably balanced clean, restrained, and letting the quality of the beef shine without unnecessary embellishment. The corn dumplings with peak-season tomatoes and chanterelle mushrooms were the dish of the night: sweet corn, earthy mushrooms, bright acidity, and a richness that tied everything together without feeling heavy. The beverage program deserves just as much attention. The Marsannay Rosé from Sylvain Pataille was a perfect pairing, bringing freshness and minerality that elevated every bite. Don’t skip the Tomatoes Gin Cocktail #2 it’s savory, vibrant, and one of the most thoughtful cocktails I’ve had this year. Everything felt intentional, from the cooking to the hospitality. So Fox isn’t trying to be flashy; it’s quietly confident, ingredient-driven, and executed with precision. If this is how they’re starting, Virginia-Highland has a restaurant that’s going to become a destination.

Fantastic experience all around. The staff is so friendly and the food is delicious. We tried most of the menu and the standouts for me personally were the sourdough, the royal red shrimp, the dumplings and the grouper. The #2 cocktail is delicious and the deserts were amazing - definitely very unique and not something you’d find at other restaurants in the area. The menu is very pescatarian friendly with several vegetarian options.
