Contemporary art gallery open after dinner

Most of Key West's thirty-plus galleries lock up by six. Monarch stays open until eight or nine, so you can actually browse after dinner instead of just walking past darkened windows.

The plain frontage on upper Duval hides a room hung with real space between pieces, contemporary work next to more classical paintings. It rotates the hang regularly rather than sitting on the same stock all season.

Good to know

• It stays open to 8 or 9pm most nights, later than almost every other gallery in town.
• The upper-Duval blocks around 900 are far quieter than the 200-500 stretch.

  Very nice, upscale art gallery in the heart of the Duval district, still relatively new. Nice collection of art work, traditional and contemporary, all sizes and shapes. Very friendly staff, who can ship just about anywhere! A fun place to browse, even if you don’t buy anything. Definitely worth a visit!

  The gallery its self is nothing short of spectacular, and Jake is as well. Amazing pieces with lots of collectible items that you won’t find anywhere else in Key West. If you’re in the area stop by—you won’t regret it!
