Banh Mi House

Made-to-order banh mi steps from West Bank
Skip the dining hall line and grab a banh mi built while you wait. This counter on Washington Avenue South keeps things simple: fresh bread, a short menu, no filler.
It's landed right in the middle of Cedar-Riverside's student housing stretch, which makes it the easiest lunch call near the University of Minnesota's West Bank campus.

Absolutely fantastic mock duck noodle bowl, ample portion, friendly staff, nice ambience. I highly recommend Banh Mi House; one of the best meals I've had in Minneapolis.

Large, pretty good Bahn MI, I had the lemon grass pork Bahn Mi. The pork is like chewy bacon strips or pork belly that hangs off the end of the bun. The sandwich is packed with mayo, carrots, and a mix that squeezes out a bit as you eat the sandwich. Paid meter parking out front, I paid a $1 for the hour. The interior is light and bright. The food was good. Staff is friendly. I didn't love the request for a 15%-25% tip for counter service but ok with the overall price of a $12 sandwich becomes $15.60 after taxes and tip, it's worth the total cost. I'm just not sure what I'm tipping for. I want people to earn a fair wage, the business to make money, but if I am tipping purely for you to make an item I ordered and was offered at a set price, what gives?

I heard about this shop from some locals, and since itâs a newly opened Vietnamese bĂĄnh mĂŹ spot near where I work in downtown Minneapolis, I decided to give it a try. Iâm always on the hunt for good food in the area. I ordered the Cold Cut BĂĄnh MĂŹ, the Lemongrass Pork BĂĄnh MĂŹ, and the Shrimp Spring Rolls. Starting with the spring rollsâthey were good, and the peanut sauce was delicious. They were packed with a generous amount of filling, which I appreciated. My only complaint is the price. At $9 for three spring rolls, they felt a little small for what youâre paying. They were tasty, but I personally donât think theyâre the standout item on the menu. Now for the bĂĄnh mĂŹ sandwichesâthey were excellent! Both the Cold Cut and the Lemongrass Pork were flavorful, and they definitely do not skimp on the meat. Every bite was well-balanced, fresh, and satisfying. If youâre coming here for the sandwiches, you wonât be disappointed. Iâve also heard their drinks are really good, but unfortunately I couldnât try any because I have a milk allergy. I do wish they offered more dairy-free or milk-free drink options for customers with allergies, but that wouldnât stop me from coming back. The shop itself is very clean and aesthetically pleasing. Itâs a cute space with plenty of natural light and a nice seating area thatâs perfect for meeting up with friends or enjoying lunch. It also has a great atmosphere if youâre someone who likes taking food or cafĂ© photos. Parking was surprisingly easy. I visited on a weekday around 3â4 PM during rush hour, and I had no trouble finding street parking. Since itâs not located in the busiest part of downtown Minneapolis, parking was much less stressful than I expected. Overall, I would definitely recommend this spot. If youâre looking for a delicious Vietnamese bĂĄnh mĂŹ, this place is absolutely worth checking out. The sandwiches alone are enough to keep me coming back, and I canât wait to try more of the menu next time.

I've been here twice in one week because it's that good! The noodle bowls taste super fresh and full of herbs, the lemongrass pork is delicious and savory, and the calamansi lemonade is the perfect balance of sweet and tart. Service is fast making it perfect for a quick lunch break. The owner is also very kind. I can't wait to keep coming back to try the whole menu!
