Hmong American comfort food from a James Beard-nominated chef
Diane Moua trained as a pastry chef before turning her family's recipes into the menu here, and it shows in the details. Expect Hmong American comfort food that earned a James Beard nomination and later Food & Wine's restaurant of the year.
The food hall setting keeps things casual, counter service and shared tables, but the cooking is anything but a side project. Northeast Minneapolis locals already know to expect a wait.

My friend brought me here for brunch because it is an award-winning local spot, and now I completely understand why! We went around mid-morning on a weekday and there was no wait to be seated in the outdoor patio, but I've heard that it is best to get reservations on the weekends or expect to wait. Our waiter Tim was very friendly, answered our questions with ease, and suggested certain picks when we were indecisive. I am actually devastated that I got the Thai tea French toast, because it has completely ruined me for being satisfied with French toast from any other brunch spot. It truly was THAT incredible. The flaky croissant bread and the Thai tea spice elevate this dish beyond any French toast you've had before. If I had the funds, I would plan a trip back to Minneapolis just for this French toast. No hyperbole. It haunts me. I also tried the Hmong breakfast sausage with sticky rice, which was delicious. A bit spicy, but so richly flavored that it serves as the perfect savory counter to any of their sweeter pastries (or the French toast, which we've already established you must try). Because I went on the morning of my birthday, Tim brought out a cup of ice cream with a little candle in it, which made my birthday morning feel very special! Diane's will quite literally be my first stop the next time I'm in Minneapolis. Can't wait to return!

We had a lovely brunch with our friends. Great atmosphere and cool building! Our server was excellent and prompt with all bits of the order. The pork belly bowl was to die for and the French toast quite delectable and filling! Of course, we couldn't leave without trying a couple pastries. The pandan was a lovely surprise, I haven't had any since Thailand and was so freaking happy they had this on the menu! So yummy! We'll certainly be back! Thank you for the great experience.

Diane’s Place is absolutely amazing. We got the chocolate almond croissant, the sweet pork bowl, and the Hmong sausage. To say the food is great is an understatement! We can’t wait to come here again to try more of the menu!!

One of the best meals I've ever had! We came for brunch and it was incredible. Our server Jason was great; perfect service and wonderful recommendations. We had the mango croissant and green scallion croissant to start and both I would get again in a heartbeat. We also enjoyed the thai tea French toast and the Hmong sausage with sticky rice. I will dream about that sausage and rice dish for months to come. We got it with the sweet and sour sauce and added the peanut sauce as well and the flavors were amazing. Chef Diane stopped by our table and was so gracious. Made for a wonderful experience and can't wait to go back next time we're in town!

Zack was our server and I was not expecting complementary ube ice cream. I was 100% surprised and delicious by the way. Thank you! I got the sweet pork with Hmong pepper. I love that it included the Hmong pickle veggies to contrast the oiliness. Hmong sausage is very unique in a very good way. And the pastries are also good and not too sweet. I got Mango, lychee croissant and crab Ragoon Danish. 10/10 live up to the hype.
