★ 4.8 · 41 reviews New York Opened February 2026

Hiroki Odo's kaiseki izakaya, at a tenth of the original's price

Dinner at Odo's Flatiron flagship runs $270. Fourteen seats east of that, in the East Village, get you the same kaiseki structure for almost nothing over $20 a plate.

Raw courses set bluefin tuna against seaweed jellies, then the binchotan grill turns out A5 wagyu. The whole menu is gluten-free. Last seating's 9:30pm, closed Tuesdays.

Good to know

  • Fourteen seats and no dish over about $20. Book ahead.
  • The whole menu is gluten-free.

I really enjoyed this experience, both from a menu diversity perspective and from an overall enjoyment/high level of service perspective. The food had a large variety of unique flavor combinations and textures, I like the style of à la carte for this and in more of an Izakaya style, while still providing Michelin quality eats. My favorite was the fried chicken, which was great especially for those in my party that were gluten free. Highly recommend this spot, not a ton of seats so a bit tricky to get a reservation but highly worth it! Side note - I loved the doraemon plates!

Food is quite good and hit the spot but nothing is particularly mind blowing. It was a comforting meal at a premium price haha. Not pictured is the beef with the potatoes i forget the name of it, very good but tasted just like short rib with potatoes. My fav was probably the karaage to be honest and i don't even eat fried stuff usually. But it also goes to say that the most interesting thing i had was indeed, fried chicken. I mean that sauce was delicious and the batter was perfect meat was juicy. But despite all the other offerings, that was my favourite? Yes i had the wagyu, and it was good but nothing special.

This was such a fun and delicious dining experience, come with a partner so you can try all the dishes! The karage was very delicately fried and the wagyu grilled was delicious. Can definitely skip the grilled white fish. Dessert was interesting too.
