The Bread Room
★ 4.2 · 75 reviews Philadelphia Opened October 2025
High Street's bakery on Chestnut, and a baking school at night.
The Bread Room opened next to High Street on Chestnut Street in October 2025, from the same team. Whole grain sourdough, miso tahini cookies, matcha croissants, plus sandwiches and salads at lunch.
In the evening the room turns into a workshop running pizza and baking classes, which is a better use of a bakery after 4pm than closing. The Infatuation added it to the Hit List.

The flavors speak for themselves! So far this summer, I’ve gotten a peach elderflower danish, a goat cheese & dill quiche, and a blueberry lavender cornmeal muffin. Each treat has been better than the last, and I can’t wait for when the weather cools down and I can sit and relax in their cozy interior. And they’re always putting out different things to choose!! I’m so impressed, and I wish I could eat here everyday. I don’t have to go anywhere else for my baked good needs!

A recent lunch visit to the Bread Room, with a large group of geezers, like myself, sealed my opinion that the Bread Room is a great bakery and lunch stop. The bread is second to none in Philly and their sandwiches were a hit amongst the 14 of us gathered. Splitting a smoked salmon, dill and fresh cream cheese on foccacia and a chicken salad on a club roll we both enjoyed toppings/fillings on delicious breads. The chicken salad was fresh shredded chicken with what I think was harissa spread on the bread to give the sandwich a light flavorful heat. Sweet bake goods were shared and all were very good. Seating is not plenty but many people came in to take out their lunch and was a lunch to enjoy out in a park or the office for lunch time.

Some of the best bread in Philly. I wish customer service was better. The workers there are all a bit curt. And the prices are a little steep, even for CC Philly. I want to give it 5 stars, and I will keep coming back -- but getting breads and patisserie here is more of a treat than a regular thing. *Postscript: After my review, I did notice staff being friendlier, so maybe the owners spread the word.

Delicious! We were walking in the city and needed a lunch stop. Everything we ate in-house and carried home was delicious. Kale Ceasar tahini salad, ham baguette sandwich, oat vanilla latte, whole milk latte; we took pastries including buckwheat chocolate chip cookie, Meyer lemon tart, pecan bar (one of rhe best I've had) and Kouign Amman (fantastic; sweet, crusty exterior with soft interior). Staff was friendly and relaxed; brought hot drinks to the table, and water when we asked. It isn't very far from the more touristy area of Independence Mall, if you're walking; parking could be challenging during the week.

I came in when it first opened and found that they were basically completely wiped out and there were very few offerings. However, I have gone since a handful of times and it is now packed with so many goodies. Their pastries are made in-house. So many cool and interesting flavor combinations that you can’t find at just any bakery. Only thing I’ll say is go early as the freshness of the pastries may not remain all day.
