Nakama
★ 4.8 · 201 reviews Philadelphia Opened May 2025
Center City Japanese with a $125 seventeen-course omakase.
Nakama opened on North 13th Street in May 2025, serving gyoza, ramen, maki, nigiri and handrolls at lunch and dinner without much ceremony.
The omakase is the interesting part: seventeen courses for $125, seated at 5pm, 6:30pm or 8pm. Book that rather than walking in for a roll.

This place is incredible, and right around the corner from the Marriott Downtown! Tried the ramen special on the first night, and it was so good I had to go back again for the sushi. The servers and sushi chef were friendly and attentive, and I highly recommend sitting at the sushi bar and trying some of the daily specials. I lucked out with a fresh-fried soft-shell crab dish that was a perfect balance of sweet crab meat, crunchy umami shell, and bright micro-greens. I will return here every time I travel to Philadelphia!

Had an excellent meal here while visiting downtown Philly. It was quiet and accessible, right off of the main street. Don't let appearances deceive you though, the food was amazing and we enjoyed all the sushi and ramen options here. Would definitely eat again.

Our first time having omakase at this location but not our first with Chef Mitsutaka. One of the best omakase experiences I have had and absolutely love his miso cod. Everything pictured was delicious and such a culinary experience!

The Omakase at Nakama is Philly’s Best Kept Secret My wife and I checked out the Omakase at Nakama and honestly…. We were not ready for how good it was. This is my #1 restaurant recommendation in Philadelphia now, no debate. 15 courses cooked right in front of you by a chef who clearly loves what he does. He kept the whole experience fun and engaging. You could tell he and his team really put their heart into the menu. Every dish hit differently, but somehow it all just flowed together perfectly. It’s BYOB. At the end of the night I asked the chef if he wanted to enjoy a glass of Sake with my wife and I to cheers to the amazing experience, and he was kind enough to join us! It’s not everyday you get to enjoy a glass of Sake with such an incredible sushi chef, which was such a cool touch. Seriously, if you’re in Philly, you should go. You won’t regret it.

I have know idea why these place has soo high reviews. The broth for the ramen has no flavor, the noodles in it are basic one you can get from an instant ramen, the karage not flavorful at all and forget about the sushi roll. I feel these was grocery store quality. The ones you get to have a quick lunch and you are not expecting a lot. Hope they can improve the flavor in their food.
