A screamo label's record shop opens in East Kensington

Buying, selling and trading records is the plan here, with the founder's genre depth as the draw rather than a wall of top-40 reissues.

High Leverage started online in May 2025, run by a former emo and screamo label owner selling records from the scene he helped document. In 2026 he announced the shop's 'offline era': a brick-and-mortar store on Coral Street in East Kensington, opening September 5, 2026. PhillyVoice covered the announcement. The build-out has been public: sign installation, shelving, weekend sessions.

Good to know

  • Opening September 5, 2026, the sign is up on Coral Street but check Instagram before making the trip.
  • Expect buying, selling and trading, with a deep emo/screamo and punk specialty.

Wasn't sure what to expect heading in here. I was amazed with the variety of options available. It was great to meet the owner, he was very friendly and warm and helped me pick out some gifts for my father. Definitely a must stop for any vinyl lover!

A must visit for any record collector in Philly. Incredible collection, awesome space, and super friendly staff who actually take the time to help you find what you’re looking for

Decent vibes and the prices seemed generally reasonable but make sure to double check that the album you're buying doesn't have a sticker directly on the cardboard like mine did. Normally I don't really care about stuff like this but for a store that angles itself to collectors and grades everything that comes in, it's a little strange.
