Willowsong

ā˜… 4.4 Ā· 75 reviews Washington, D.C. Opened February 2025

Third restaurant in a room that has burned through two

The InterContinental space at The Wharf has held Kith/Kin and then Moon Rabbit. Willowsong is the third attempt, open since February 2025.

The menu leans local and pasta-heavy: squid-ink orecchiette with crab, crispy oxtail cresto di gallo, smoked duck tinga tagliatelle. Sit near the water side of the room.

Reservations for brunch on Father's Day. Yellowtail tacos were puzzling; serving was so small, breaded and šŸ¤”?deep-fried? Truly tasteless and severely lacking for the price. Nectarines on the salad weren't ripe and the salad was overdressed. Cocktails are 3/4 full of ice and overpriced. Wouldn't return.

The pasta is super rich, but so good. I came here for a group dinner and service was wonderful. Perfect date night, I would come back but please note, it is high end.

Was excited to try this restaurant given the many positive reviews but did not meet expectations. Best part was the cocktail (gimlet) and nectarine salad, which was part of the prefixe lunch we had. We came to celebrate a birthday and while we certainly didn’t expect any special treatment , we were greeted by the hostess and separately by the waiter who confirmed we were there to celebrate a special occasion. We didn’t expect anything else from the restaurant, but it felt odd when we didn’t get anything extra, like a small birthday dessert, especially since it was very much not busy. The cocktail was delicious with layered flavors that were so unique. And the nectarine salad was divine and tasty in many ways, with grilled nectarines and fresh blackberries. But the chicken sandwich was bland and lacked really any spice without sauces. The fish tacos were bland as well and a little fishy for my taste. I’m not sure yellowtail works well fried. We got the frozen cheesecake dessert (part of the prefixe menu), which was okay but unnecessarily frozen - I much rather prefer a regular cheesecake made well. Overall mediocre food experience and not above and beyond service as I thought would happen given our circumstances. We’re not recommend this place giving high prices for this experience.

This is a hotel restaurant, but it’s very good. Great service, ambience, a bit upscale. But here’s the biggest thing. The nectarine salad is the best salad I have ever had in my entire life. I added steak to it, but I didn’t need to. It’s beautiful. Filling. Flavorful. Sweet and tangy. I want to eat this salad every day for the rest of my life. I want to inject this salad directly into my bloodstream. I want to take this salad on a romantic getaway to the Maldives. They could charge $100 for this salad and I would still get it. GET THE NECTARINE SALAD.

I love Willowsong! The food, setting, and service were top notch. My colleagues and I tried the $35 Restaurant week lunch menu, and so glad we took a chance. The duck tart was so rich with the perfrct bursts of sour cherry. Our mains were solid - the steak sandwich was ruled the best entree. The lamb rigatoni was fresh with an unexpected kick from the salty, spicy lamb sausage. The stunner of meal was a chocolate Nutella brownie dessert. Jackie was our professional and attentive server. She shared tips and dishes to try on our next visit. We will be back!
