BuchQuartier

Austria's first cooperatively owned bookshop, in a Penzing housing block
No single owner, no investor calling the shots. BuchQuartier belongs to its members, who buy in and keep it running, and the shop sits on Hütteldorfer Straße among phone shops and empty units where nobody expected a bookshop at all.
It follows Mila, the cooperative supermarket that opened in Vienna shortly before. The 14th district had never had a bookshop of its own, so instead of adding a fourth one to Neubau, this one went to Penzing.
Good to know
- Open Tuesday to Saturday, it is closed Mondays.
- Anyone can buy into the cooperative; membership is not limited to the people who run it.

A bookstore with that certain something extra - community, ideas, atmosphere and café - what more could you want? :)

A very charming young bookstore with friendly staff and a good selection. It's great that someone dared to open a new bookstore!

A great addition to our neighborhood. Very friendly employee who can order any book on the market. Mine was ready for pickup the very next day. I'll be back.
