Jurubeba Bar

Boteco looks, cocktails built from Brazilian roots
It looks like any classic Rio boteco, until the drinks arrive. Jurubeba shakes up cocktails built on Brazilian fruits and roots, including the bitter jurubeba plant that gives the bar its name.
Some nights bring live samba. The cocktails still cost boteco prices, which is why the place filled up fast on Real Grandeza.

It's a very simple bar, but with everything that matters. I went with some friends and I have nothing to complain about regarding what I ate or how I was served. It's the basics, but very well done. The draft beer was cold and the orders arrived quickly. The waiters were friendly and attentive, always respecting the privacy of the table. It stands out from other common bars by having a menu with good dishes, especially the Passaralho. Very good!

It had been recommended to me, and I smelled blood, so I went the last night, with my suitcases, before heading to the airport. It was great. The food is fantastic, and the corner location is very nice, away from the chaos of Botafogo but lovely; it looks high-quality. I was in a hurry, so I only ordered some shredded beef and a couple of queijao empanadas to try the menu: everything was fantastic, and again, the setting is perfect. The empanadas were the best I ate in Rio because they were generous and the frying was perfect. Great cheese, the onions were just right, nothing to adjust. The shredded beef was also delicious: I think it needs a side carbohydrate to round out the dish, besides the bread they give you. Add a handful of shoestring potatoes on the side, and it's 100% better. It's missing a crunch, a change of flavor to keep the surprise alive after the third bite. Beyond that: it's a place I'd return to in a heartbeat, with more time and a lot of enthusiasm, every time I go to Rio. The price is okay, around 90 reais for both items plus a Coke. Everything's cheap there, though.

The food is very tasty, but the portions are small for the price. The grilled cheese is delicious. The cheese and onion pastry is also good. The shrimp pastry is a disappointment: little filling and no catupiry cheese (I've tried it twice). The drinks are also good.

Vegetarian option (the only one) very tasty and balanced, good price for the dish. The meals are only written on the board at the entrance of the place, the menu has the other items such as snacks, drinks, etc. For dessert I recommend the chilled coconut cake, very good!

I loved it, loved it, loved it!!! What we ordered: 1. Roast beef croquettes 2. Pulled pork leg with bread rolls 3. Rib pastry 4. Iced coconut cake 5. Jorge Amado (drink) and 6. Domingas (best soft drink I've ever had!!! Made with pitanga and pineapple soda, a unique delicacy) All this and it came to less than 100 per person, there were two of us and we left bursting!!! But we ate a lot because we wanted to try several things. Quick and friendly service. Very nice atmosphere. Bar food at Michelin-starred restaurant level.
