Coffee by day, whisky by night inside Pacific Mall

Boa & Hare runs two lives in one room at Pacific Mall in Chinatown. Mornings mean specialty coffee and a fusion lunch menu, then the lights drop and it turns into a proper cocktail and whisky bar.

Chef Winnie Chen co-owns it with brother William Chen and partner Wilson Wong, the team behind Vanloc and Alberta Boeuf. Closed Mondays, and the patrolled lot behind the mall beats hunting for parking downtown after dark.

New place decided to check it out. The latte was very good! Very nice latte! Cafe itself looks pretty cool. Next time I’ll take some time to sit in and see what the vibe is like. There is parking which is nice, but sometimes tricky to find. Will come back for sure and try out some other drinks!

Boa & Hare is one of those tucked‑away spots you notice even when you’re just passing through. It sits quietly inside Pacific Mall on 97th Street, and I’ve gone by a few times when it was closed. Today it was open and busy, which tells me the neighbourhood already knows it’s worth stopping for. I could not speak to the owner but another time when it is quiet - Sunday today!! I didn’t have time to go in, but the atmosphere looked warm and inviting, and the space has a charm that stands out in the mall. I fully intend to return when I can give it proper attention — it feels like the kind of place that rewards a slower visit.

The peppered pork is one of the best things I’ve ever tasted. They were out of a lot of drinks when we went so I ended up ordering a matcha it was still good. The ramen was really delicious but the noodles were a bit soft and reminded me of a spaghetti noodle. Pictured is miso ramen and hare over the moon. The pork and matcha were so delicious we forgot to take a picture.

I have driven past it 100 times but when it came up in conversation a friend's eyes lit up with an excited exclamation of "mango matcha latte!" So, we went, got the mango matcha lattes, and I was NOT disappointed.. I licked the cup.. No shame in this game. Lol. I got the birria bao tacos.. by the time they came back to the table with waters we ordered another round. When my roommate was coming to pick me up I sent the menu and they ordered the ramen and banana bread and I got ANOTHER latte. Can I just say.. brulee banana.. I mean.. New addiction unlocked. Finally, the ramen... truly the highlight. The egg, a jewel in the crown of the expirience. The broth, no joke.. the best shoyu broth I have had. 10/10 would reccomend to a friend. I already know I will be trying the 5 spice lotus root cuttlet on a bao sando next.

Unique coffee shop that feels like a bit of a hidden gem. I ordered the matcha and it was very good, smooth and well balanced. Definitely a nice spot to stop by if you are looking for something new.
