Sake, low-intervention wine and Chinese-inspired plates on College Street

The pairings are the whole point at Chez Wa. Ask the staff and they will steer you through a rotating list that swings between natural wine and sake, matched to Chinese-inspired cooking that's built for sharing.

The plates run small. Three per person lands about right.

Such a wonderful gem, I absolutely love this place! The staff are all so welcoming, the food is delicious and the wine selection both thoughtful and interesting. It's great to come with a small group but also comfortable as a solo diner where you can snag a spot at the bar. It's become one of my go-to-decompression spots- if you haven't tried it out yet I highly recommend!

As someone who doesn't drink, I just wanted to go for the vibe—I really love their storefront design and the decor inside. As for the food: The Drunken Spot Prawns were pretty fishy, and the texture was just okay. The Hongsuantang Mackerel was nothing special—pretty average, though the rich sauce was a highlight. The Zhangcha Duck was decent, with a noticeable applewood smoky flavor. That said, this place is a bar, and these dishes are clearly meant to be paired with drinks. They're all cold appetizer-style dishes, so if you're not drinking, they're really not worth going out of your way for.

I love a good wine bar! 🙂‍↕️ Vibes are very cute and staff were very attentive and we even got a perfect wine recommendation. There’s no resos so be prepared to wait. We went on a Wednesday 7:30 and waited 45 mins - an hour. The plates are small so be prepared to order a few (which can add up quickly). My favourite was the Hongsuantang Mackerel!
