Wenceslas Square's Art Nouveau Grand Hotel Evropa, back after a decade dark
The Grand Hotel Evropa closed in 2014 and sat empty on Wenceslas Square for ten years while its Art Nouveau interiors were painstakingly restored. It reopened 29 October 2024 as W Prague, the brand's first Czech hotel: 161 rooms and suites, including the Extreme WOW Suite. The square-facing wing dates to 1904-1905, built over an older 1872 structure, and its façade is one of the most photographed in the city.
The restoration ran up the bill. Mosaics, stained glass, the café's original fittings, the staircase, all conserved under heritage supervision before W layered its usual loud contemporary design on top. A rooftop terrace called Above went in afterward. Opinion in Prague is split, which tracks: putting a lifestyle brand inside a national monument was always going to land that way.
Good to know
- The Above rooftop terrace opened later than the hotel and has one of the best views down Wenceslas Square.
- The 1905 café interiors were restored rather than rebuilt, worth a look even if you are not staying.

*What an incredible stay at the W Prague! The hotel itself is stunning, and the underground spa is a true standout — such a beautiful, relaxing space. Service was exceptional from start to finish, and the location couldn't be better, just a 10-15 minute walk to everything worth seeing in the city. *The food was delicious throughout our stay, and the rooftop bar is an absolute must — the views at sunset are breathtaking. Our room was gorgeous and spotless the entire time. The concierge team went above and beyond, giving us amazing local recommendations that made the trip even better. Denesa in particular took spectacular care of us with all of our questions and inquiries. We are beyond grateful for her expertise, professionalism and kindness. *Highly recommend for anyone visiting Prague — an amazing stay all around!

We had a wonderful stay at W Prague, and I want to thank the entire team for making our visit so memorable. Unfortunately, our luggage was delayed by the airline, but the staff handled the situation with genuine care and professionalism. A special thank you to Raul, who went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. The complimentary amenity kit was incredibly thoughtful and helped us get through an unexpected inconvenience. Everyone we interacted with was warm, welcoming, and eager to help. The exceptional hospitality turned what could have been a stressful experience into a positive one. Thank you, Raul, and the entire W Prague hospitality team, for your outstanding service. We truly appreciate your kindness and would happily stay here again. Highly recommended!

I would like to commend the outstanding service of W Prague, not only professional but also warm and sincere which make our journey a pleasant and lovely start. Greeted by staff once stepping in, followed by an informative tour to the hotel (like the scenes for movies Mission Impossible and Titanic) - much appreciated indeed. The staff also went extra miles to help us connect local service for fixing our broken luggage. Breakfast is excellent, lots of choices and flavorful. Besides, the spa with whirlpool, sauna, steam room, rainforest shower, are truthfully fantastic. My family has great fun there. Regret that we only stay for one night. Will definitely stay here again whenever we are back.

I do a decent amount of traveling, and we are loyal Marriott customers, but I cannot think of any hotel experience that has ever compared to the incredible one we had at the W in Prague. Every single member of the team plainly believes deeply in a memorable customer experience, and they go far above and beyond in every way that they can to make it happen. Plus, they all seem deeply interested to learn your name and room number... a seeming impossibility in a major hotel seeing so many customers come and go. The facility itself is a stunner. All the public spaces are gorgeous, either thanks to their vintage era styling or their contemporary re-imagining. The breakfast experience was sublime. The cocktails were absolutely top notch. The room maintenance and turn-downs were fantastic. Honestly, it's hard to overstate how difficult it was to leave... I would return to that hotel in a hot sec, and I'd encourage anyone considering a trip to Prague to make this their home base. Well Done, Hotel W Prague!!!

I had an exceptional stay at W Prague. The hotel is perfectly located in the heart of Prague, making it incredibly convenient to explore all the main attractions, restaurants, and historic landmarks on foot. They went above and beyond to make my stay memorable, always greeting guests warmly and ensuring every detail was taken care of.
