Roberta's Society

★ 3.9 · 270 reviews Aarhus Opened 3 June 2025

A 1934 library turned hotel, hostel and culture house

Sleep in a former library on the edge of Mølleparken, then spend the evening in the space downstairs. Roberta's Society splits 460 beds between three-star rooms and dorms sleeping up to 34, with long-stay rates if you're in Aarhus for weeks.

The ground floor is the real draw: Cantina restaurant, a lobby bar, shuffleboard and billiards, plus a venue called Roberta's Stage. Communal dinners run most nights at a fixed price, and the queue on opening day said Aarhus was waiting for exactly this.

Good to know

  • The communal dinner is 89 kr Monday to Thursday and 129 kr Friday to Sunday.
  • Long-stay rates start at 14 nights and are aimed at students and project workers.

I have been backpacking for many years and this is one of my favourite hostels, I have stayed here many times. It is very stylish and modern and in a great location. The rooms and bathrooms are also very clean and comfortable. However it is not perfect, they charge extra for linen and towels, as an accomodation provider these should be free of charge, the beds should also be fully made up for you before your arrival. They also charge extra for luggage storage, which is also a very big negative in the hotel/hostel world. Any good hostel would also have a fully equipped kitchen for guests to use, which Roberta's currently lacks. A few changes to this place could make it truly excellent.

The hotel is in a great location, close to the city centre, with a lovely park right next to it. The online check-in process was straightforward, although it did require installing an app. We arrived before the standard check-in time and were pleasantly surprised that we were allowed to check in early once our room was ready. The room was a little small but clean, tidy, and very quiet, especially at night, which made for a comfortable stay. The bed linens were fresh and clean. As expected in a hostel, we made our own bed using the linens provided. There was no air conditioning, but a fan was available, although it didn't quite reach the upper bunk. I also wish basic toiletries had been provided. A couple of small improvements would make the room even better, such as adding a small table for personal belongings and providing a larger rubbish bin. That said, housekeeping did remove our rubbish while we were out, which was appreciated. The check-out process was quick and hassle-free. It was also convenient that luggage lockers were available after check-out for a small fee, making it easy to explore the city before leaving. Overall, we had a lovely stay. The excellent location, clean and quiet rooms, and smooth check-in and check-out experience made it a great base for visiting Aarhus.

Stayed in the 8 bed female dorm for 2 nights. No towels or bedsheets are provided, and I thought that this wasn’t communicated well enough when booking. Service staff were excellent and welcoming, but the room is honestly mediocre at best. Thought that there would be shared shower facilities, but the dorm was en suite with 1 bathroom for 8 people. Appreciated the electronic key card for the lockers, thought it was quite convenient.

Although Roberta's is listed as a hostel...it is more like a boutique hotel. Great casual vibe, many room choices, a great restaurant and cantina! The staff are extremely helpful, friendly, and full of local information! Read the FAQs BEFORE you arrive, it will make your stay alot easier. Prices are.fa are fair and it is rigjt near stores, restaurants, cafes, and public transportation. We would gladly stay again!

Great hostel in a very central location in Aarhus. Very stylish and modern, comfortable beds, good showers. Sheet rental is extra but this is advertised - you do therefore have to make up your bed on arrival. Service was impeccable. Would definitely stay again if I return to the city!
