Vintage cocktails and European plates on Plaza Colonial
Sol y Sombra built its look around old-world touches, dark wood, brass fixtures, vintage elegance two minutes from the beach. The kitchen leans European, and the cocktail list is built for sipping through a long dinner.
It opens at 3pm and runs until 11pm, seven days a week, filling the gap between lunch service and the late-night bars. The courtyard tables fill up first.

We will go back but order differently. The caprese was sadly a disappointment as the tomatoes were underripe. You can’t serve a caprese with underripe tomatoes! We live in Santo Domingo so I know excellent tomatoes — on the vine, beefsteak, even heirloom — are readily and steadily available. We ordered 2 for the table and both were disappointing. The fried shrimp/calamari was heavy handed with way too much batter. It was supposed to be served with aioli but instead we got straight mayo. It was like pub bar food. The tuna carpaccio was good, and the ribeye was over salted but a gorgeous piece of meat. Delicious. The drinks were fabulous. The service was OUTSTANDING. Wow. Clearly this is a restaurant that not only trains their staff well but hires people who are genuinely kind and LIKE working there. Such a breath of fresh air after last night’s horrific service at Onno’s. Next time we’ll try the pasta and fish dishes.

Hidden little gem! Excellent food paired with great service and nice environment. The filet de res a la pimenta is delicious. The owners were there and they are lovely. This is a must try in Las Terrenas!

This place is amazing and the food is so good. The ceviche was fresh and presented well. The rib eye steak was one of the best I’ve had. It melted in my mouth, the flavors were so tasty and good, and it was all around of the highest quality. The pasta was a perfect mix of tasty shrimp, delicious sauce, and perfect burrata. I’d highly recommend to anyone.
