Berlin's best-known pastrami is back, inside a food hall
Paul Mogg built his reputation on pastrami at his old Auguststraße deli, then lost the lease in 2024. He's back now at Kalle Halle on Karl-Marx-Straße, same house-made pastrami piled into a Reuben or a French dip, alongside the rest of the New York-deli lineup.
A food hall counter isn't a deli storefront, but the meat is the same, and that was always the point.

We ate Rouben Pastrami Sandwich and it was amazing. Be prepared to taste slightly more savoury than the other ordinary sandwiches outside but this is the nature of pastrami I suppose. Bread I think makes a huge impact of the taste and it holds the sandwich quiet good and very good roasted. Coleslaw and German style pickle is a nice touch on the side. Service was fast enough and the staff was very helpful in terms of making suggestions

After 12 years, they have moved to a food hall. The space might not have the same vibe, but I appreciate the decrease in prices. The quality is still amazing; the pastrami is great, very meaty and subtle but flavourful. Though I really have to praise the truffle burger - it was surely THE BEST truffle burger I've ever eaten. Mainly, the meat was so nicely done - cooked but still a bit red inside.

Really impressed. This was the closest thing I’ve had to a Montreal smoked meat / pastrami sandwich. The mustard was layered perfectly, and the meat was tender, flavourful, and just right — not too lean, not too fatty. You can tell they put a lot of love and care into making these sandwiches. The sides were exactly how they should be: proper coleslaw, a great pickle, and delicious fries. Everything hit the spot. The staff were warm, welcoming, and genuinely nice, which made the whole experience even better. At the same time, you can tell this is a place run by professionals who know exactly what they’re doing. There’s an old-school confidence to the service — they have a clear idea of how the sandwich should be made, and honestly, they’re probably right. Really good sandwich, really good meal. Highly recommended.

Good pastrami sandwiches, tender and not dry, I got the pastrami classic, they also have a Reuben sandwich version on the menu, among other things. The Bloody Mary was spicy and savory, maybe a little sweeter than I expected, but good. Nice to see this place open again, this used to be located down in Mitte, which was easier to get to. The Kalle Halle food hall also has a ton of other small restaurants with a variety of options.

Hands down, the best hot pastrami sandwich I’ve had east of Manhattan’s Katz Deli. The pickle and sauerkraut are also point-on. What a delish meal!! Update: went back again to try out their hamburger, asked to have it without mayonnaise. Oh my goodness, it was delectable!!!!!!!!!! This place has become my favorite. I’ll be back for their onion soup which friends have told me is outrageously delish as well.
