Garbo

Natural wine by the glass, run by two Munich sommeliers

Garbo opened on Klenzestraße in mid-June 2025, founded by sommeliers Stefan Grabler and Markus Hirschler. The list leans on small growers and natural winemaking, poured by the glass rather than saved for special occasions.

The room is sized for a quick stop after work, not a reservation you plan around. Drop in, grab a glass, see what's open that night.

Make reservations! We swung by around 7pm on a Saturday and they were completely full but managed to squeeze us in for 30 min for two glasses. Lovely and incredible wine by the glass list. Food menu didn’t look too exciting but well worth coming for early drinks and nibbles!

We really love Garbo bar—the atmosphere is great and the staff are always kind and helpful! However, there’s one issue: the kitchen smell spreads throughout the space, and we left smelling strongly of frying oil. We hope this can be improved, as it takes away from an otherwise wonderful experience.

Cute place, a bit on the higher end side. Food tastes pretty nice and it’s also presented very well, but you shouldn’t go there full on starving.

Great wine by the glass (or bottle of course), amazing food, and a warm, inviting vibe. The staff knows their wine and makes excellent recommendations. My recommendation: the ribs and a few different glasses of grüner Veltliner A reservation is definitely recommended!

TL;DR - Solo traveler friendly, exceptional wine list, warm local crowd, and outstanding food. As a solo traveler, I sat at the bar and immediately felt welcomed. Within minutes I was in conversation with locals, many of whom turned out to be wine collectors themselves. That alone speaks to the kind of thoughtful crowd and community this place attracts. The bottle list was comprehensive and fairly priced, with no noticeable markup. By the glass, there were about 11 reds and 15 whites, which included a strong lineup of Rieslings, all four of which I tried. My clear standout was the 2020 Jurtschitsch Quell Riesling—elegant, floral, and beautifully balanced, a wine I couldn’t stop sipping. The 2018 Albert Mann Furstentum Grand Cru was refined and layered, but it was the Quell’s rose-petal nose and subtle sweetness that truly won me over. Food is simple but outstanding, it always felt complimentary to the wine. The house made Garbo Johanner sausage with sauerkraut (beautifully crisp, not overly vinegared) is a delicious reprieve if you need a break from eating too many schnitzels. (I regret nothing!) Later on a ham-and-cheese toast was comforting and delicious. The staff are professional, warm, and efficient. The service felt similar to a Michelin-level operation without the fuss. Several locals already called Garbo their “favorite spot,” and I wouldn’t be surprised if Michelin eventually recognizes it as well. Highly recommended for anyone passionate about wine. Whether traveling solo or with friends, you’ll find both serious wines and pleasant conversation here.
