Fanny liest

A bookshop named after a stenographer's wife
The name is the joke. Fanny liest sits on Gabelsbergerstraße, named for the stenographer Gabelsberger, and the shop takes its name from his wife, Fanny von Schweller. It only really lands once you're standing on the street.
Inside it's a general bookshop, but the owners load the shelves hardest with children's and young-adult titles, the section they're clearly happiest stocking. It's part of the eBuch cooperative of independent bookshops. Around it, the Maxvorstadt runs on TU Munich students and Pinakotheken crowds, with families from the side streets rounding it out.
Good to know
- The shop takes orders and questions by WhatsApp on the shop number.
- It is a few minutes' walk from the TU Munich campus and the Pinakotheken.
