Market logic, Greek wine, Metaxourgeio

Named after Thessaloniki's old covered market, Kapani runs on the same idea: whatever's fresh, cooked simply, with wine steering the menu instead of trailing behind it. The list leans hard into Greek bottles, plenty you won't recognize.

Metaxourgeio has churned through a decade of openings and closures. The survivors are the ones with a clear point of view, and this one has it. Ask the staff to pour you something obscure, they will.

What a discovery ! Delicious, precise and creative food. Every dish was exquisite. They also have a very good wine house and very nice natural wine selection. The owners are passionate, which u can tell. Bravo !

What a wonderful place. We loved the ambiance, the good food and the frindly staff. My suggestion would be to not go and eat only in the touristic center but also enjoy a local restaurant in this nice neigbourhood.

This is a very special restaurant. The meal my partner and I had at Kapani was an absolute highlight of our time in Athens and truly one of the best meals I have ever had. The food was absolutely delicious- bread with olives and a tomato, greens and with tahini dressing, potatoes with Greek cheese and goat pasta with broth. The food was simple, beautifully prepared and presented and seasoned perfectly. The staff were amazing and fun. Music was excellent. Wine was delicious. A remarkable experience I hope to have again.

We absolutely loved Kapani. Every dish we ordered was packed with flavor, and the food felt thoughtful without trying too hard. We also had a fantastic orange wine that paired perfectly with the meal. The real standout, though, was the tzatziki—it’s an absolute must-order. One of the best we’ve had. Great atmosphere, delicious food, and a place we’d happily return to. Highly recommend!
