The cocktail bar that kicked off Reykjavík's mixology

Slippbarinn, in the Reykjavik Marina hotel on Mýrargata by the old dry docks, is widely credited with starting the city's serious cocktail scene. The list changes with the seasons and leans on Icelandic ingredients, and there's live music and DJs some nights.

The harbour-front terrace is a summer draw when the sun barely sets. Come for happy hour, which softens the Reykjavík drink prices.

It wasn't obvious to us, but this is a restaurant attached to a hotel, which we generally try to avoid. Service was hard to secure at first and little spotty throughout our meal (they seemed to also be running room service and dealing with a big group finishing up happy hour), but the food was fantastic (langoustine soup) and I had probably the most interesting cocktail (birkir based) I've ever had. For parents with little ones, our six year old loved the kid's burger.

We were intrigued at the 2 for 1 Main Entree offer, so we tried it - and wow! Gourmet all the way! My wife had a pan-fried delicate white flakey fish with all the trimmings. I had lamb chops, that were also accompanied with very tasty complex sides. The portions were quite satisfying and the texture and tastes were exemplary. I mean it! These were outstanding dinners. The 2 for 1 is for a select, but higher-end entree list offered on Mondays and Tuesdays. Today is Monday....guess where we're eating dinner on Tuesday?

The place is a bit out of the way & tucked round the back of the building but well worth it, food was superb (as was every meal we had on our trip) & so was the service. The only reason I have marked the atmosphere down was our visit was on a quiet evening but takes nothing away from the place. I don't understand why it was quiet, happy hour on drinks & 2 for 1 on the main meals on top of it being great, should be rammed really.

This lamb 🥩 brings the animal in you out. Make you eat with your hands! Beautyful flavored, tender and juicy lambchops. The fish pan was nice. The bread and spread is also very nice. Nice and fluffy bread with a good home made pesto. Service could be better. Interior is decent

What a wonderful establishment! Not only was I greeted right when I walked in the door our food was timely supported as well as Aran the bartender was immaculate. She was knowledgeable, kind and so quick with her service definitely will be coming back and definitely five star.
