Pottery, cloth and old objects in a revived machiya

A crack in the earthquake-hit Noto coast is what pulled Shio Ohno out of Tokyo and into Kanazawa. She opened this shop in an old Kannon-machi machiya brought back through a vacant-house restoration project, keeping its nure-en, the covered veranda that once marked where a home met the street.

Shelves hold vessels from makers she visits herself, including young craftspeople from the Kanazawa Utatsuyama Kogei Kobo, alongside clothing cut from Enshu and Bishu cloth, African antiques and mingei-leaning pieces. She calls the stock tools for treating ordinary days well. The second floor became shop space after the first year.

Good to know

Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays; open 10:00 to 17:00.
The second floor is a shop now too, go up.

Incredible shop. The owner has curated a sublime shopping experience. I purchased a one of a kind, Japanese linen temple outfit, the price was very reasonable. Best shop we visited in Japan by far!

It was very lovely meeting the owner . The store has just opened in April 2025 .She has curated all the pieces in store by herself. It was a beautiful experience to learn about the artist of the selection from her . Definitely need to visit !

Lots of beautiful pottery and jewelry were reasonably priced because they were uniquely made by artists, and you could feel the emotion in the pieces. The staff were very friendly and spoke fluent English. They even recommended other great shops to me.

A short walk outside of the higashi chaya district- this shop was my favourite. The owner has curated a beautiful selection of unique wabi sabi style crafts goods. We purchased a ton of ceramics to bring home, we only wish we would've been able to bring home more. The shop owner is also so lovely, she loves every artist she has brought into her new shop. Definitely will be returning next time we are in Kanazawa.
