Takaoka tin craft since 1916, inside a restored teahouse-quarter kominka

Nousaku's tin bends by hand, that's the whole point. The Takaoka foundry has been casting metal since 1916, and its first directly run Kanazawa shop just opened inside an 85 m² converted kominka in the protected Higashi Chaya teahouse quarter.

About two hundred pieces fill the shelves: tin and brass tableware, wind bells, the flexible KAGO baskets. A tea room at the back runs a menu made only for this branch, last orders at 5pm.

Good to know

• Closed the first and third Tuesday of the month; open 10:00 to 17:30.
• The bendable tin plates and baskets travel flat, the most practical thing to carry home from Higashi Chaya.
