Phonsavan's default cafe-bar, coffee by day, quiet nightlife after dark

Backpackers moving between Luang Prabang and Vietnam end up here more or less automatically. Cranky-T is a cafe by morning and the closest thing Phonsavan has to a bar by night, with a full list of imported beer, wine and cocktails alongside the Lao-grown coffee it's known for. The dinner menu runs Western comfort food, seared tuna salad among it, from 5 to 9pm only.

What keeps it at the top of Phonsavan's short restaurant list isn't ambition, it's consistency: free wifi, air conditioning, and a bar that stays open past most of the town's other options. Travelers passing through for the jars tend to end up back here for dinner regardless of where they ate lunch.

Good to know

Dinner only runs 5-9pm; coffee, breakfast and desserts are available all day from 7am.
Ask for a house cocktail after dark, it's the closest thing Phonsavan has to a proper bar.

If you find yourself in P-Town; hungry, thirsty and in want of a friend; then worry not. Because, the guys and girls at Cranky T's will treat you like one of the family. Now i must say while in SE-Asia i am always serching for a western style breakfast and this is how I stumbled apon this reputable establishment. Fast foward 24hrs and a cancelled plane later, thanks Lao Airways, I found myself back once again enjoying a glass of wine and some fine bbq food. If the moto of Laos is 'please dont rush' then here is your place to live life in the slow lane. Relax, recover and reavaluate. Because once you sit down you wont want to leave till closing time.

Had the most amazing meal here, and met the owner. Go San Diego! We had the Korean Fried Chicken and ham & cheese panini. Meant to go back and talk more with the owner, but we ran out of days…will definitely be back!

Delicious breakfast, everything is fresh and flavourful. Prices are reasonable for western food. The boss is a funny woman, her workers are nice. Nice and coozy atmosphere, beautiful coffee place. Highly recommend. Note that closing time isn't correct, by 21:00 it was already closed.
