Amai Chaya

★ 4.7 · 12 reviews Curepipe Opened 28 January 2026

Mauritius's first Japanese tea salon, matcha and homemade desserts at Empire Square.

Amai Chaya opened at Empire Square on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, calling itself Mauritius's first Japanese tea salon. The menu backs that up: matcha drinks, homemade cheesecake and tiramisu, and evening plates like Japanese-style chicken teriyaki buns, all served in a room built for the quiet of a Kyoto tea house rather than café noise.

It closes by 5pm most weekdays, later on Saturdays. That's the point: not a daily coffee run, but somewhere to slow down for an hour between errands in Curepipe.

I had a vanilla cake and a matcha latte. So good! A cozy space and a great welcome!

Always a pleasure to enjoy their specialties and warm welcome! Highly recommended. Too bad I don't have any photos... I was too busy enjoying myself! 😂

Today my wife and I visited Amai Chaya, and I wanted to share our experience in this little haven of happiness and tranquility in Curepipe. You feel completely disconnected as soon as you step inside; the owner is very friendly, and the atmosphere is equally peaceful. As for the drinks and desserts, the ingredients are of very high quality; you can truly taste the authentic matcha, and everything is homemade. We will be back very soon, and don't hesitate to go—it's definitely worth a try. Thank you.

Clean, aesthetic and cozy spot with a calm atmosphere. Service was excellent, and the food was delicious. The Soft Bun lives up to its name. You can really taste that the sauces are homemade rather than industrial. Overall prices are very reasonable. Highly recommended.
