A hotel restaurant that puts river boatmen and forest farmers on the menu, not just wildlife

Sauraha runs on jungle safaris and elephant souvenirs, so a menu built around the Rapti River's own communities stands out. Majhighar centers its all-day kitchen on Majhi and Tharu dishes, the two groups most tied to the river and the buffer zone around Chitwan National Park. Even the name nods to the Majhi, the river's traditional boatmen and fishers.

Nepali staples share the menu with those regional dishes, food you won't find at the average safari-town restaurant. It sits inside Royal Tulip Chitwan, the first five-star hotel in Sauraha, and it's one of the few kitchens here telling the region's human story alongside the tiger tours.
