Café Barolo
★ 4.5 · 36 reviews Eindhoven Opened February 2025
Star chef's wine bar, nearly 300 bottles
Around 40 wines stay open at any time, poured from a private collection chef Adrian Zarzo spent years building. The full list runs to nearly 300 bottles, alongside digestifs and fortified wines.
Café Barolo was a long-held dream for Zarzo, already known in Eindhoven for Zarzo and Zuid by Adrian Zarzo. It opened on the Keizersgracht in early 2025. Food stays deliberately simple: artisanal cheese, paper-thin cured meats, small refined bites. It's built to sit alongside the wine, not compete with it.

It was scorching hot and the Dutch national team was playing, so we were practically the only ones there. But a huge compliment to this wine bar. A very nice selection by the glass (yes, a wine bar, but you sometimes see other things), beautiful, original dishes. Nice staff; truly a gem of an establishment.

Had an incredible wine and tapas evening with a group of 11 people. The wines and the food were fantastic, and the sommeliers even more so. We had a pleasant chat about wine, both serious and lighthearted. The food was exquisite as well. Naturally, you pay for this kind of thing, but you know that in advance.

What an exceptional experience at Café Barolo in Eindhoven! We spontaneously wanted to have a drink, but were told it was full. Understandable, of course, but still a shame. When we were standing outside and mentioning this to each other, a man approached us who had overheard that we were disappointed. Without hesitation, he arranged a spot for us at a table that had been reserved for later. Only then did we realize that this was Adrian Zarzo himself. As far as I'm concerned, this is the essence of hospitality: listening, thinking along, and taking that extra step to give guests a wonderful experience. Not standard service, but genuine attention. Thank you for this attitude and the warm welcome – moments like these really make the difference. We will definitely be back! Best regards, Tessa and Kay.

We received a super warm welcome, even though we were a little early. We had a wonderful evening with good company and incredibly helpful drink recommendations from our waiter, Jan. Thanks in part to him, we had a fantastic evening and, in terms of price-quality ratio (after indicating the range he adhered to perfectly), we really had some wonderful drinks. We ordered the albondigas twice because of the fantastic taste!! The quality of the meat (pata negra) was fantastic. We received several beautiful slices of it, and they were top-notch with the fresh oysters and a glass of bubbly on the side! With a party of 3 gentlemen and one lady, we ordered a large part of the menu and went home with full stomachs. In short, a place where you are listened to and receive good advice on beautiful and eccentric wines, and also great for enjoying nice wines by the glass with a group. We left Barolo completely satisfied, exceeding expectations, with full stomachs and even more wine knowledge. We could not have wished for a more beautiful evening!!
