Chałka i masło

Braided bread and good butter, that's the whole menu
Chałka i masło keeps things narrow on purpose. It's built entirely around chałka, the traditional Polish braided egg bread, served warm with good butter and not much else.
The shop sits on Ogrodowa in Bałuty, part of a wave of bread-first openings across Łódź in 2025 alongside Cookiery and Dobra Buła. No pastry case, no long menu, just the one thing done well.

This was hands down the best restaurant I ate at in Lodz. I went there four separate times on my ten day trip because of how much I loved it, and I still think about their food even a month later. Their challah is delicious. I also loved their apple fritters, their goat cheese omelette, and their chocolate cake. Their strawberry and basil compote tastes extremely fresh, and I also really liked their tea infusions. The staff speaks excellent English and also has an English menu. The restaurant is clean and the staff are very kind. On weekends, there is likely to be a line, so come early or be prepared to wait. Highly recommend this place!

✨The breakfasts here are awesome — both in taste and in portion size. We also had the chance to speak with one of the owners, who built this place from an idea on paper into a truly impressive gastronomic spot in Łódź. You can feel the passion in every detail. Highly recommended! Seeya again 😉

Nice idea for something slightly different. Every bite was a masterpiece. Also, finally a spot with good coffee. Place isn’t big though, so reservation may be necessary. Waiting to be seen by a waitress is another story…

During my recent visit to Łódź, I had the chance to stop by Chałka i Masło – a place that definitely deserves some attention. The interior is cozy, and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming – perfect for a laid-back breakfast or lunch with friends. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the dishes were nicely presented, which always adds to the overall experience. The menu is quite varied, with some interesting – and at times even bold – combinations. One example is a sweet challah paired with chorizo – an unusual mix that will surely appeal to adventurous food lovers. I personally went with something less experimental, but I can imagine that dish has its fans too. After all, that’s what cooking is about – experimenting and discovering new flavors. Prices are very reasonable considering the quality of the food, which makes the place even more appealing for a return visit. All in all, Chałka i Masło is definitely worth a visit if you find yourself in Łódź. Tasty food, pleasant vibes, and a creative approach to breakfast. Recommended!
