Brooklyn cafe by day, midnight party by night
Red brick, a long communal table, an indoor utility pole and geometric art make this Zhongshan spot look like a Brooklyn corner store. By day it's dessert-inspired coffee and loaded sourdough sandwiches.
After dark the room flips: DJ sets, cocktails and a half-open frontage that lets the party spill into the lane until midnight. Zhongshan has plenty of pretty cafes, but few that still work at 11pm.

Visited for breakfast. I liked the Signature Thai Tea. Food was also delicious.

I found it unacceptable that nearly half of the brunch and open sandwich items were not available at the beginning of service. On top of that, none of the staff members even bothered to inform the customers. It was only when I started to order via the QR code that I realized how limited the menu was. Even though the food tasted fine, the portion was quite small in view of the price. The tables were packed so close to each other that I was basically sitting right next to the person at the table next to me. Given the tight space, there was a group of 5 while I was there and their conversation filled up the entire space.

I have a friend who lives in the area and we decided to try it on a whim. It’s healthy food yet the portions are small for the price you pay. Overall low CP value. I may be nitpicking but I couldn’t find any water that’s easily accessible for refills. Probably all I need to do is ask, but when the restaurant only have two tables of customers, you’d think the workers would be more attentive. Definitely we ate somewhere else as the food wasn’t enough, but nice to try.

I went for weekday brunch around 10:30am. It was 20 degrees outside, but the AC was blasting and the music was quite loud. The decor is lovely, but it was so cold and loud that it was hard to relax, which was really disappointing. My bacon and egg toast was presented well overall, but underseasoned and a bit underwhelming for the price point. I added a salad to my dish and it was just a handful of lettuce, no tomatoes, nothing. My hojicha latte, I enjoyed. I also noticed all of the staff were on their phones much of the time. I had to say something to get the woman behind the counter to look up from her phone even though I was standing right in front of her. With more attention paid to the details of the dishes and overall guest experience, I would go back.

Great brunch, some very nice plates offered. Smoked salmon plate was good, could be great if cheesy base had capers instead of relish. Eggs were perfect. Loved the shrimp avocado toast, generous with large shrimps. Very nice coffee too. Order and pay at the counter. It's a busy place so reservations are probably a good idea for busy times.
