Singapore coffee in a Japanese-era house with a courtyard
The courtyard and timber bones do half the work here. The other half is the espresso program, two rotating blends poured by the Da'an outpost of Singapore's Alchemist, tucked into a restored Japanese-era house in the Guangzai Jinmachi compound near Guting.
It sits a few doors from the Yudofu tofu restaurant in the same compound, so locals treat the lane as a half-day route: lunch, then coffee under the eaves. Weekday mornings are the quiet window.

Pros: -Super vibey renovated traditional Japanese house -beautiful courtyard - spacious, many seats -clean bathroom where you can sample their brand of coffee ground hand soap - quality coffee, croissants smell delicious - no time limit (walk in only) - nice staff Cons: -super vibey= many folks taking photos and not necessarily being spatially aware of others and your view will be the beautiful garden with people setting up their videos and selfies - can get crowded so be sure to show up either first thing in the morning or early afternoon to snag a seat - some fruit flies on humid summer days where the door is getting opened a lot

Lovely unique traditional vibe here. Worth noting most of the seats are not comfortable so if you want to work with a laptop for a long period of time it might not be suitable. There is a toilet and they take card too. Not so many power outlets and no time limit.

We ordered the ice white and drip coffee, it didn’t taste premium in comparison to its price (180 and 200NTD respectively). I couldn’t really taste/smell the notes described for the drip coffee (if I’m not mistaken there were berry notes). I think the portion size was also quite small… The ambience was very nice and the staff were great but you’re definitely coming here just for the views and pictures.
