Alchemist Dihua

Singapore's Alchemist lands in Dadaocheng, not the East District
Skipping the usual East District playbook, Alchemist picked Dihua Street for its Taiwan debut in 2025, its first stop after Japan. The terracotta-toned space off Nanjing West Road keeps the menu tight on purpose: espresso on two rotating blends, filter, done.
It's the right caffeine stop for a Dihua Street morning, between dried-goods shops and fabric arcades. People here take their beans seriously, and nobody's camped out with a laptop.

Photogenic cafe but mild & smooth filter coffee. Give yourself a try. It costs around 240$ per filter. Ice or hot filter coffee is possible.

Small but varied variety of coffees. Bit of a smaller cafe, not really a place to hang out for a while.

Two choices for espresso based coffee. Both were good.

I visited Alchemist Dihua after being drawn in by photos of its beautifully curated interior. As an interior journalist, I was especially intrigued by the space’s highly organized composition, meticulous finishes, and bold, stimulating color palette—it looked strikingly refined and visually compelling. Upon entering, you’re immediately greeted by the counter straight ahead, where orders are placed. To the left, there’s a linear bench fixed along the wall, allowing guests to sit and enjoy their drinks. While the bench includes small, fixed tables for placing beverages, it’s not particularly comfortable for long stays. The seating accommodates around ten people in total. At the very back of the space, a sliding door leads to a narrow corridor, which continues to a shared restroom for both men and women. The spatial layout itself is quite simple, but thoughtfully composed and undeniably attractive. Beyond the visuals, the coffee was also quite good—solid and enjoyable, complementing the overall experience nicely.

Alchemist Dihua 4/5 We are supposed to go to a coffee shop near this but my dad could not climb up so we just happened upon this and it was actually a pretty good option. They had good coffee that had a great selection with different depth they also have pastries but unfortunately we didn't get to try and the one thing my dad was really looking for was hot chocolate oddly enough it's very hard to find hot chocolate in taipei but this is a place you can find it the hot chocolate was dark and not too sweet but the biggest issue we had is at the drinks were just not hot they were just warm but not hot enough and especially as time goes on they start to get cold really fast they also sell had soaps and coffee beans and you can actually smell the hand soap and their bathroom i think this coffee shop is very aesthetic and very cool so a lot of people will really enjoy taking photos here and hanging out here one of my major issues where the table is being stainless steel and so when you put something on it you can hear a bit of the scratching which is not the most comfortable experience but the baristas and the people are very very nice there and they actually helped us with finding a place to eat
