Ten rooms of Lanna art inside an old tobacco warehouse
One collector's holding, not an institutional archive, fills ten themed rooms inside a restored tobacco warehouse on Wiang Kaew Road. The collection runs thousands deep: paintings, textiles, photographs and everyday objects tracing Lanna spirituality and kingship through to northern Thai pop culture.
It sits next to the Fah Lanna Spa in the Old City, closed Wednesdays. That personal, one-person-collected feel sets it apart from the temple museums nearby.

This museum was spectacular! Each room offered something different about Chiang Mai/Lanna culture with excellence! Yes, it is priced higher than other museums in the area, but it offers a really unique way to understand Lanna culture and traditions/contemporary Thai art. I loved the hands on experiences of the ocean room, laser art room, and the cinematic area to view the mountains, Loi Krathong, and beyond! This museum is great for kids and adults. You get a free delicious drink in the café! This museum does a wonderful job of showcasing Chiang Mai history and culture in the best possible way. Oh, and the staff was very friendly, too! I highly recommend it! 🤗

A Hidden Gem in Chiang Mai! We absolutely loved our visit to the Fahlanna Art Museum! It’s super convenient—only a 10-minute Grab ride from Nimman. The ticket prices are very reasonable, and they even offer special rates for seniors, which is a nice touch. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by a lovely young woman who spoke fluent English. She provided us with shoe covers to help protect the beautiful museum floors—a thoughtful detail. The exhibits are fantastic, featuring a rich collection of historic artifacts from the Lanna era, beautifully complemented by modern technology and creative light displays. The contrast between old and new was truly captivating. As a bonus, the ticket includes a complimentary drink at the café, and you also get a 10% discount on any purchases. We visited on a weekday and practically had the place to ourselves—no crowds, just peace and culture. If you're not in a hurry and want to immerse yourself in Northern Thai heritage, I highly recommend stopping by. Definitely worth it!

The motto for this place is "easy to find and hard to forget." It's TRUE! I didn't want to leave certain rooms. What a memorable and affordable experience, unlike any other museums and immersive galleries I've been too and I've been to a lot. Not to be missed, especially if you're a history buff, love Lanna heritage, and admire and honor creativity. Shout out to all the friendly staff, especially Boo, who made my birthday trip extra special. She has the coolest job because she gets to open the first door and hear visitors gasp in awe! LOL

A decent collection of local craft, art and culture, but WAY overpriced in my opinion. Tickets cost 550 baht ($15) pp but it only takes about an hour to walk through, some of the light rooms are a bit of a joke and meant for kids, including the cinema room. Even after you buy the ticket, you can't go in right away you have to wait for staff to bring you a "gift" bag... That only has disposable shoe covers inside. 🤣 So it's on the customer to cover their shoes and keep floors clean... Was the gift bag necessary 😂 Also side note the merchandise - for an ART museum - has to be the blandest thing... There's potential here but a lot of it feels tacky.

Spend 2.5hrs here. Complimentary coffee or juice with colored pencils in the bookstore had me create my own drawings when I was decompressing from the history of Northern Thailand in photos, pottery, textiles, paintings, and sculpture. A one stop see it all tapestry of Thai culture with a few fun rooms for kids as well. Highly recommend for 500thb donation for ticket.
