East Lake's new all-day diner, from the chef behind Whoopsie's

East Lake finally has somewhere to land between breakfast and dinner. Chef Hudson Rouse took over the old Mix'd Up Burgers spot at Hosea and 2nd and turned it into a diner-style cafe, the kind of place you can get a burger, a glass of wine before five, or just coffee and eggs.

The menu leans on a club sandwich and pasta alongside specials pulled from Rouse's own travels. He also ran Whoopsie's and Pure Quill Superette, so the pedigree checks out. It fills the gap before neighborhood dinner spots like Gene's and Poor Hendrix open up.

The food was exceptional! Went to rising son on their final day, for the first time, and it immediately became one of my favorite restaurants. We were told about the new restaurant in the works and it absolutely did not disappoint. So happy we walked there. Will be back!

the hashbrown+ egg w/ salmon, caper, crema was excellent! I'll be back to try the fish plate & the shitake fried rice another time

First time coming in and really enjoyed the location. I was a big fan of Rising Son. Fried trout grit bowl was really good and well-seasoned. The space is really cute and there was plenty of parking on a weekday morning. Service was kind. Chicken was good (I dipped it in the syrup, yum). The only special request I would have is to serve the waffle warm, butter warm (it was cold and didn't melt) and have warmed syrup. That's a want item. All and all, I was pleased with our visit.

Went for brunch with friends. The waffle and greens were good, I loved the brown sugar syrup they gave you. The fried chicken didn't taste like it was seasoned at all. The hot sauce wasn't very spicy but it made the chicken better. Drinks were great!

Great restaurant with a stylish, welcoming atmosphere and a fun local feel. The food seems fresh, flavorful, and well prepared, making it a good choice for dinner, drinks, or a relaxed meal with friends. Prices are moderate, service feels friendly, and the strong rating makes it look like a dependable spot. A solid choice when you want good food, a comfortable vibe, and a more memorable dining experience than a basic casual restaurant.
